Nurturing a new generation of fashionable home furnishing buyers

Portland has been nicknamed the Silicon Forest for a good reason. Portland has a large community of startups that are eager and ready to change the world. And as a new generation moves in and calls Portland home, the desire to build and renovate some of the most beautiful homes in the valley comes along with it.

These professionals know what they want and aren’t afraid to reach out and find it. They think nothing of jet-setting to New York City for the weekend. Searching and ordering online is second nature. And they have no desire to accept mom and dad’s hand-me-downs when it comes to furnishing their new homes.

“Our generation embraces the concept of simplification. We take the time to consider what we need before we purchase it. We want it to last. We want functionality,” says McKenzie Schatz, a fourth-generation executive of family owned and operated Paul Schatz Home Furnishings. “But that doesn’t mean we’ll sacrifice style.”

The roots of Paul Schatz Home Furnishings dates back one hundred years to when it started with the desire to create a superior experience when selecting home decor. They understood right from the beginning that customer service was everything. They’ve been listening ever since.

“What many people find surprising is the young, fresh vibe they find from the moment they walk into our store. That isn’t by accident,” says Schatz. “This is not your grandparents’ furniture store.”

Eliminating The Frustrations

“When I joined this business three years ago, I didn’t start at the top. Instead, I took the time to work in every department of our organization. I wanted to thoroughly understand every aspect from the customer's point of view,” says Schatz. “It allowed me to truly understand what people right here in Portland want most.”

“Portland isn’t New York City. The climate is different. The vibe is different. Our approach to life is different. Home decor that works back east somehow takes on a different appearance here. We have a Pacific Northwest mentality, and it shows in everything we do.”

“We’re a local business. I’m fourth generation, so this is my home. We’re casual. But that doesn’t mean we don’t value quality. In fact, because of our love and respect for nature, we may crave it more. You can take one look at throwaway options that come from popular big box stores and instantly know it won’t last. Where’s the quality in that?”

Whether you’re shopping for chairs or sofas, dining room furniture or a new bedroom set, Paul Schatz takes the time to ensure you’re getting the most for your investment.

“We treat our customers like family. So we offer services that only a family would provide. Like our design services. We come out and help you measure. We spend time laying out your options and helping you make the best choices possible. That’s all included in the price of our furnishings. We don’t tack that on as an extra service. It’s who we are,” says Schatz.  “That’s what separates us from our competition.”

“And let’s face it, why wouldn't you want to give your family the best of everything? For the past one hundred years, and for decades into the future, this is our philosophy. Styles may come and go, but quality and service will never go out of style. That’s our belief.”
